TVAA member artists explore subjects that are close to our hearts and a driving force in our art-making, including self portraits, self-identity and personally potent topics, subject matter and treatment.

Self portraits can go deeper than the face in the mirror. They can explore inner mysteries, conflicts, dreams and fears. Many of us find “self” in the subject matter we pursue, in the colors, forms and scenes that we choose.

Open to 2D (wall-hanging) work, 3D (sculpture, ceramics, jewelry), time-based art and digital art.
No AI-based artwork.

Creativity with the theme is always encouraged. We are asking for a maximum of 3 pieces per artist. Multiple artworks from a series are encouraged. Artist statement is very important. Please include an artist statement that details how each work is relevant to the theme (50 words or less). You may also provide a separate artist’s biography or general statement (50 words or less). Our host, Boise State University is a public all ages venue.

PROSPECTUS

TVAA Members in good standing (through the end of the exhibition) are invited to apply to this exhibition at the Boise State University, Fine Arts Gallery, Student Union Building.

  • All mediums will be considered.
  • Boise State University has a glass case with space for displaying 3D sculptural work. Please provide pedestals or risers marked with your name and phone number.
  • Boise State University is a public all ages venue. Only family friendly subject matter will be considered.
  • This is a curated exhibition with limited space. Not all submissions will be accepted. 

Note that The Exhibition Committee and BSU Galleries reserve the right to exclude any artwork for any reason, including if a piece is not appropriately prepared for installation.

APPLICATION NOTES

  • You may submit up to three digital images of original work(s).
  • DIMENSIONS: Total dimensions for each work must include the frame, if applicable.
  • IMAGES
    • Must be named as follows; artists last name followed by title and submission entry number (example: Smith_Hero_01.jpg)
    • Image files must be in JPG format and no larger than 2MB. Please see the article on Photo Tips for preparing quality photos of your artwork. High quality photos are strongly encouraged, since this is how your work will be evaluated. Poor quality images may be disqualifying.
  • LATE ENTRIES will not be accepted, so be advised to not wait until the last minute to submit an entry, allowing time to catch any technical issues with an application.
  • RECEIPT: To ensure receipt of your application confirmation email, make sure to add artcurator@treasurevalleyartistsalliance.org to your contacts, or it may go to your spam folder.  If, however, you do not receive a confirmation email, contact our curator ASAP.

POST ACCEPTANCE

Specific artwork selected for the exhibition must be available from the drop-off date through the pick-up date. If you think there will be a conflict in scheduling a particular artwork, please do not submit that piece, as substitutions will not be considered. 

Please contact our curator in advance for special display needs, such as especially heavy artworks, electricity needs, etc. Note that if you’re displaying 3-D works, you’ll need to provide appropriate pedestals and risers marked with your name and phone number.

PREPARATION

  • READY TO INSTALL: Each accepted artwork should be ready to install on the venues cable and rail system. See specific hardware instructions illustrated below. Works that are not securely fastened to their frames or works that do do not have securely mounted D-rings and framing wire will not be installed.  Frames must be in good, display-worthy condition.  Read this article (https://treasurevalleyartistsalliance.org/professional-presentation-of-artwork/) for information on professional framing and appropriate hanging devices.  Sawtooth hangers are not acceptable.
  • ARTIST LABELS: All artwork should be labeled on the back with the artist’s name, the title of the piece and any special hanging instructions.
  • GALLERY LABELS: Art labels, prepared by the curator, will include name, title, medium, and price.  
  • SALES: If you intend to sell works, please include contact information in your application so that interested buyers can get in touch with you.  
  • UNFRAMED WORKS: Unframed artworks, such as gallery-wrapped canvases, are acceptable as long as they have clean and resentable edges (example: no visible staples).

DELIVERY

Accepted artwork must be dropped off during the specified time and place (see IMPORTANT DATES).

All artwork should be labeled on the back with the artist’s name, the title of the piece and any special hanging instructions. This is important for properly identifying each piece, as signatures are sometimes hard to decipher. Artists will also be required to fill out and sign a release waiver.

Packing materials cannot stay on-site and must be stored by the artist for the duration of the exhibit.

SALES

  • Each venue has specific policies regarding artwork sales, posting of prices and artist’s contact information. Neither TVAA nor Boise State University will handle any sales.
  • Artists will handle their own sales entirely. Please provide contact information to be printed on gallery tags.
  • Any work not for sale will be labeled “NFS”. 
  • Sold work must remain on exhibition for the duration of the show and can have a “red dot” on the label indicating the work has been sold. 
  • When the show comes down, if the artwork has sold, TVAA requests a 10% donation on sales, with the artist retaining 90%.
