Purple Haze

Artist Statement
This triptych is my impression of the same location at three different times of the day. It is inspired by our early fire season, the fires created such a strange atmosphere, that appeared to settle in different ways throughout the day. Whether the sun was trying to rise through it, the moon eerily settling into the night in it, or the afternoon lingering in its blur, it was a reminder of how the smoke effects the atmosphere and mood. Although the smoke wasn’t pretty shades of purple, I utilized different tones and values of purple to recreate the hazy mood.
Kayla Hanson is a painter born and raised in Idaho and is heavily inspired by the beauty of the natural landscape. She received her bachelors in fine art from Boise State University in 2021. Kayla works in oil paint and loves the action of pushing and pulling paint, and the interactions of brush work with impasto paint. She is influenced by the interaction of light and color in the natural world, experiences, and the meaning of unraveling ones unique interpretations of memories of “place”. Kayla has shown work in exhibitions locally and regionally since 2016.
