Artist Statement
Me…small and tight.
The titles of these works reflect the struggle I have always had with working too tightly on my artwork. It makes progress extremely slow and tedious. Often I will end up leaving a work half finished and never get back to it as a result of the extensive time required to complete the project. With this large oil self portrait, the scale allowed me to work more freely with large and loose brushwork so that it took me much less time than the smaller, tighter piece. I hope to continue and improve with this loose style.
