Man’s historic writings have often been indecipherable: cuneiform, hieroglyphs, petroglyphs, pictographs. How did they take shape? What sounds gave them life? How did they serve to string thought and concept into meaningful dialogue? They can be boldly ‘out there’, fragmentary, or secretively hidden. Whether bold, vanishing or secretive, they are nevertheless cloaked in mystery for those of us who either discover them, or don’t.
I construct art. History, mystery, objects and concepts trigger ideas. Ideas then become problems to solve; the problematics beg to be solved. Process and solution then trigger new ideas with new problematics, ad infinitum. Often old work becomes the new problem to be re-worked into a new and better solution. If there is no problem then it is incumbent to invent one.
