Resplendent Quetzals
Oil on canvas
Artist Statement
In 2007 while visiting Guatemala I eagerly searched the jungle canopy for emerald green hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive national bird-the Resplendent Quetzal. It never happened. I regretted it for the next 11 years when I decided life should not be lived with regrets. I learned that resplendent quetzals also live in cloud forests of Costa Rica. I immediately booked a flight. Upon landing I drove all night to a remote mountainside in a national park. Next morning I spoke with tour guides and then hiked to the where the birds could be found. It was resplendent.
Heather Haley is an artist from Boise, Idaho and has been fortunate enough to travel throughout the world. She began drawing and painting before she could speak in full sentences, and art was her first language. A degree in Biology with an emphasis in Zoology, Heather has always had a deep appreciation for animals and nature. The inability to quench her thirst for adventure, and her insatiable passion for wildlife, Heather uses vivid color to depict scenes from her imagination and experiences. Wildlife and nature are dominate themes in her artwork, as she hopes to inspire movements of conservation globally.
