Snowbirds

Artist Statement
Early morning, sunrise, soft light on freshly snowed branches. I saw shapes of birds in the snow shapes and proceeded to paint these curious visual suggestions. One brushstroke led to another and I found myself placing real bird images amongst the bird shapes made by the curves of the snow on the branches. Very peaceful and a bit ominous at the same time.
My primary goal when beginning a painting is to capture the light of whatever subject I’ve chosen. The light quality infuses even ordinary objects with majesty and depth, providing a new perspective on what is seen in passing or in a captured, stilled moment in time.
