Khazad Mul, abode of the dwarves. There are Native American legends of cannibalistic dwarves living in the Owyhee mountains, but I prefer to believe the dwellers here are much more benign, like the dwarves of Tolkein’s Middle Earth. Which is what inspired this drawing; this is a real place, located at the mouth of Three Fingers Canyon near the Owyhee Reservoir, in the western Owyhee Mountains. I did take the liberty of, well, adding some architectural details to the spires and pinnacles of rock, but this place, one of my favorite secret getaways, is striking enough in reality.
