In the LIGHT
Oil
Artists Statement
I used light and shadow as well as cool and warm color temperatures to support the concept of transitions. Inspiration: Shadows on a wall and light shining through the canvas. Lighting: Two sources: Warm backlight through a cloth and cool front light through a cutout of a medieval cross. Style: Conceptual and Surreal. Challenge: Painting in blue light and making the shadows and lighting work. Idea Development: I included the four seasons to represent transitions. Sometimes I feel apathic to what is happening in the world. Other times I’m waiting on God Is the bird apathic or waiting?
Artist Bio
The last few years have been a time of change in outlooks, politics, the world and my life. All of this change led to a renovation of my art initiating a new series: Transitions. My style is transforming to be conceptual, surreal, and abstract while maintaining a level of traditional realism. I’m combining painting from photos, plein air, still life, past work, art history and my imagination. My visual inspiration comes from transitions between light/shadow, cool/warm, day/night and traditional/contemporary. My inspiration for paintings come from life and beliefs. My style is in transition from being tight to lose.
