Artists Statement
The interaction between light and shadow is a strong element in this painting. Inspiration: Bible verse: Ps 119:105. Lighting: Flashlight. Style: Conceptual, Surreal, Traditional and Contemporary. Challenge: Painting in the dark. Idea Development: I used an old painting from 1998, God Knows, in the still life for the path of our lives. In the shadows are objects representing unexpected bad times. To create a more surreal effect, I included the shadow of the cross on the painting and made it appear to hang from the trees.
Artist Bio
The last few years have been a time of change in outlooks, politics, the world and my life. All of this change led to a renovation of my art initiating a new series: Transitions. My style is transforming to be conceptual, surreal, and abstract while maintaining a level of traditional realism. I’m combining painting from photos, plein air, still life, past work, art history and my imagination. My visual inspiration comes from transitions between light/shadow, cool/warm, day/night and traditional/contemporary. My inspiration for paintings come from life and beliefs. My style is in transition from being tight to lose.
