Hells Canyon
colored pencil/ink illustration
Artist Statement
A surreal portrayal of Hells Canyon, carved by the mighty Snake River as it flows through towering spires of rock, nearly a mile deep.
When I drew this, I was at my childhood home visiting my father, for the last time. So it has special meaning to me. When I think of this drawing, I like to think of climbing down to the base of one of those tall pillars, placing his ashes in a model wooden boat, and allowing the current to carry him northwards, out of the canyon, onto the plains and on out to sea.
