Mustang Gather #1
Digital Photographic Print
Artist Statement
Mustangs or wild horses are often gathered off the range using a helicopter to herd them from the air. This method is controversial because sometimes horses are injured during the panic the helicopter creates. Some young colts are not able to sustain all the running, and run themselves to death. This gather outside Emmett, Idaho happened because of lack of water. The helicopter pilot did well, and only one horse was lost–a good outcome. The dust risen due to the dry conditions reminds me of old-fashioned oil paintings, which creates a painterly atmospheric, which I like.
As an artist and photographer, I am in love with the world. I am interested in showing it in all its glory.
