Lupines at Truckee
Gouache on paper, 21 x 18
Artist Statement
After a visit in the spring to Truckee, California located in the Sierras near Lake Tahoe, I was inspired to paint the explosion of wildflowers, in this case, lupines, which carpet the area. Gouache is a medium that I have been exploring with pleasure: the rich colors, the ability to layer paint and the immediacy the medium affords.
Although trained as a dentist, primarily providing care to incarcerated individuals, I have been making art from a young age.
My paintings explore the fleeting beauty of nature through the lens of impressionistic landscapes, capturing the interplay of light, atmosphere and a sense of place.
