Artist Statement
The artist has painted the Flying M many times and each time the cityscape has changed somewhat and will likely change again as development continues. Flying M is an iconic coffee shop in downtown Boise which for many years hosted the Valentines for Aids event. To create a collection of Boise daily life, the artist has painted many of the businesses, parks and locations in downtown Boise, a favorite place to be and paint.
Like reading a great book, art centers the artist in their space. Born and raised in Idaho, Higher Education (ISU and BSU), world travel, and art lessons from Roland Giampoli, illustrator and commercial artist, renowned artist John Killmaster and others, have developed the artist’s unique view as an artist and plein air painter. Gary McCall celebrates humanity through painting original art, which includes buildings, community and daily life in the Treasure Valley, and the world.
