Doesn’t Play Well with Others
Acrylic, 18 x 24
Artist Statement
In this darkly humorous piece, a panda teddybear, symbol of childhood innocence, depicts some of the dangers kids face as they grow up. Even a child’s playroom, which is supposed
to be a safe place, can be a source of injury. The teddy has been placed in a corner of the room for being naughty. The rocking horse looks back at the viewer with a humorous commentary on the scene.
Through the use of varied imagery (my paintings are often inspired by my Native American roots, Choctaw and my spiritual quest with studies in Jungian symbolism), classical & digital painting techniques & sometimes humor, I often create a visual commentary on topical societal issues. I hope the viewer is inspired to be more aware of their global connections to each other, to nature & to take personal responsibility for effecting positive change in society.
