oil on canvas
This piece is from a short series I call my “Power Outage Series”. I had my heart set on painting one winter evening and then the power went out. Painting only by candlelight and not able to see color, I decided to paint nothing more than dark shapes and splotches on blank canvases. When I had power again, I turned these canvases around until I saw a picture in them, which I developed through imagination.
I create images, exploring land and waterscapes, architecture, still life, and the animal kingdom. I work on site and from life whenever possible, celebrating natural or man-made forms and patterns. My favorite subjects are from personal experience, celebrating the special places and creatures that nurture and inspire joy in myself and others. Though my artwork varies in subject and media, a central theme is bringing the preciousness of our natural world to a viewing audience.
