Prickly Pear on Blue Background
Oil on wood
Artist Statement
I love the desert and all the weird, wacky and whimsical plants that grow there. The prickly pear, covered with thorns, flowers in the spring, producing delicate, frilly blooms. In these paintings, I wanted to create a soft “feel” to some very prickly, thorny desert plants.
Artist Bio
I read once that artists have one great picture/idea that they paint over and over again. Maybe, that’s true. I tend to be obsessed with flowers and women. I draw, paint, print them over and over again. I guess it’s just because that’s who I am. I have six sisters, and they have always been a subtext in my life. And flowers just provide such happiness and beauty to me and to those who stop for a second to enjoy them. What a luxury it is that I can spend time growing them and then painting them!
