Disillusion
Acrylic on Canvas
Artist Statement
Suddenly, things just don’t seem as shiny, bright and new as they used to. Including myself. Like the varnish of a new painting worn away with time. The intimacy of invention has waned, giving rise to the familiar. The metal, corroded. The glass, broken. Nobody told us about the loss at the end.
Artist Bio
Andrew Groth is a painter, sculptor, portraitist and musician, living and working in the Treasure Valley. Inspired by current events, Disillusion is an abstract expression created during the first few months of 2021. Reflecting on the past year provided a darker flow state for me. I thought about the first time I remember falling. You know, that SHOCK! Then the pain hits you and you start to wail! The world suddenly just got a lot bigger and a lot more frightening.
