Under the Sea
Hand-painted, hand-printed linocut
Artists Statement
I love aquariums, and this image always makes me feel like I’m looking into an aquarium…or scuba diving. I wanted to make an A to Z of endangered sea creatures, and this is it! I have 26 sea critters in this image…and all are endangered. When the waters get warm, as they are doing, many life forms are threatened. Water is incredibly important to all of us on planet Earth; it’s the key to existence.
Artist Bio
As we think of the importance of water in our lives, we also might want to think of the health of our oceans. Scientists are just now learning about life forms in the deepest areas of the ocean. These waters are crucial to our existence. The ocean supplies half of our oxygen and absorbs 50 times more carbon dioxide than our atmosphere; it regulates our climate and weather patterns. It’s our planet’s life support system. (National Geographic, Oct 2012)
