Bonfire on the Beach
Watercolor
Artists Statement
Fire fascinates me (not the fires that we are having right now but restricted fires). They are magical in the way that they change and move. We used to have a place on the Oregon coast and my brother who lived next door loved making bonfires on the beach and we would all gather wood from the beach and the woods around us and when it got dark enough, we’d sit around, all bundled up, and just watch the fire. The challenge on this was to see if I could make a fire look realistic and again, that black background!
Artist Bio
I’m Gina Brostmeyer and I work in watercolors and acrylics. My favorite subjects are anything that catches my interest or that I connect with; animals, landscapes, buildings and sometimes people. My latest challenge is to express moods with my art. During the Pandemic and even this summer, art allowed me to escape into a world of my own making and for hours, forget about Covid, heat, and smoke. My husband says I like it because there’s no people and sometimes that’s true, too. I entered my first juried art show in June and sold a painting and won an award.
