Orange Fish
Linocut
Artists Statement
I’ve always loved Japanese woodcuts, especially their fish prints. In this print, I create some fantastical fish and printed the background orange to suggest koi.
I love orange. It’s just a cheery color. It suggests the sun, flowers, heat, brightness.
Artist Bio
I read once that artists have one great picture/idea that they paint over and over again. Maybe, that’s true. I tend to be obsessed with flowers and women. I draw, paint, print them over and over again. I guess it’s just because that’s who I am. I have six sisters, and they have always been a subtext in my life. And flowers just provide such happiness and beauty to me and to those who stop for a second to enjoy them. What a luxury it is that I can spend time growing them and then painting them!
