Wild Ginger
Oil on canvas
Artists Statement
From a series exploring unusual or exotic foods, which lend themselves to interesting and aesthetic expression. This project encouraged me to look carefully at my food, to search broadly for edible elements that are not yet in my regular menu, and to explore what it means to ”dine”. This piece started with a background pattern that was created using a rain-on-oil technique. I discovered the process by accident, but I love the effect and have decided to embrace it in a sense of play. Wild Ginger is a plant I have wild-harvested in the woods of Central Idaho.
