Rocket Ridge
Pinhole photography and oil paint on canvas
Artist Statement
Maria’s photo vista of the Boise foothills that she loves and runs in regularly contained two houses at the edge of the wildlands. Pat imagined a future where the residents of the outermost house had a rocket launching pad for their vacation home on the moon, resulting in the new Rocket Ridge foothills trail.
Pat Kilby, a painter of quirky and colorful oil paintings, and Maria G. Essig, a photographer with a passion for pinhole photography, are creative colleagues who’ve long wanted to work on a project together. Collaboration Cure offered the perfect opportunity. Maria’s softly focused panoramic pinhole photos, printed on canvas, morph with Pat’s distinctive oils to create Augmented Reality – what we might imagine when we look at the scenes around us. Their collective hope is to invite the viewer to blur the line between what is “real” and what our imaginations can conjure.
