Heightened Hyde Park
Pinhole photography and oil paint on canvas
Artist Statement
The historic homes of Hyde Park captured in Maria’s panoramic pinhole photograph morph into fanciful lodgings with Pat’s colorful oils. The blue sky becomes a startling yellow sunset that brightens and lends an otherworldly feeling to the scene.
Pat Kilby, a painter of quirky and colorful oil paintings, and Maria G. Essig, a photographer with a passion for pinhole photography, are creative colleagues who’ve long wanted to work on a project together. Collaboration Cure offered the perfect opportunity. Maria’s softly focused panoramic pinhole photos, printed on canvas, morph with Pat’s distinctive oils to create Augmented Reality – what we might imagine when we look at the scenes around us. Their collective hope is to invite the viewer to blur the line between what is “real” and what our imaginations can conjure.
