Reflections at Mill Pond, Horseshoe Bend
Oil on Panel
Artist Statement
One reason to paint en plein air is to immerse completely into the scene. Last September, I was with friends painting in Horseshoe Bend. I was so drawn to the reflections on the water at Mill Pond that I just couldn’t get close enough. I set up my easel as far down the dock as I could, and took in the breathtaking view. I didn’t know that a friend took a picture of me with my reflection. This painting was from a photograph by Benay Sotelo that I will always treasure.
I enjoy painting impressionistic oil paintings, especially en plein air to truly connect with the subjects. In these paintings of “Artists in the Wild,” I was inspired to capture the artists’ stories as each of them were immersed in their environments.
