Midnight Metaphor

Dec 3, 2024 thru Jan 31, 2025

Initial Point Gallery
Meridian, Idaho

Prospectus

TVAA Exhibiting Artist Members refine their cool dark palettes in this exhibition to explore the depths of blue. Midnight shadows, elusive pools, things that go bump in the night, with possible contrasts of red or whatever fits, all set to intrigue the viewer.

Deep blue can symbolize the heavens, the watery 71% of the earth, a somber mood, or representing royalty, wisdom or stability. You get to pick your meaning.

In the exhibition Midnight Metaphor, 2D and 3D artists from the Treasure Valley Artists Alliance will explore the color of deep blue in all its meanings and shades.

Open to all 2D (wall-hung) and 3D* media.

Creativity with the theme is always encouraged. We are asking for a maximum of 3 pieces per artist. Artist’s statement is very important. Please include an artist’s statement that details how each work is relevant to the theme or describes your journey (75 words or less). You may also provide a separate artist’s biography or general statement (75 words or less). Our host, the Initial Point Gallery is a public all ages venue.

There is no size limit (within reason).  Please contact the curator if you plan to enter something exceptionally huge or heavy or have unusual needs for display (such as electricity).

Acceptance of Work

See Application Procedure above for fees related to this exhibition. Artwork selected for the exhibition must be available from the drop-off date through to the pick-up date.  Substitutions will not be considered. If you think there will be a conflict in scheduling a particular artwork, please do not submit that piece. The Exhibition committee reserves the right to exclude any artwork for any reason, including not being appropriately prepared for installation.

It is possible that not all artwork will be included in this show.

Hanging Devices

Each accepted artwork should have an appropriate hanging device attached. Read this article for information on professional framing and appropriate hanging devices. If artwork is heavy, please make sure hanging device is suitable for weight and appropriate for cable-and-rail system.
Artwork that is delivered without appropriate hanging devices will not be installed or included in this show.

For this show, the 2D (wall) artwork will be cable-hung, which works best with D-rings as illustrated below. The Initial Point Gallery has special hanging and presentation guidelines.
Pieces without appropriate hanging devices will not be installed.

2D: Two-dimensional artwork will be hung from hooked cables on a track system and therefore must be equipped with two D rings on the side rails on the back of the frame. The inside of each D-ring must allow a space of at least one-quarter inch (¼”) for insertion of the hooks. The D rings should be approximately a quarter of the distance of the total frame height from the top of the frame (or less) in order to avoid slanting away from the wall. Wires, eye hooks, and clip frames will not be used for hanging.

Frames need to be securely attached to artwork and in good condition. Unframed artworks, such as gallery-wrapped canvases, are acceptable as long as they have presentable edges (example: no visible staples).

3D artwork needs to fit within the gallery’s display cases as shown below:

Please contact the curator in advance for special display needs, such as especially heavy artworks, electricity needs, etc.

Delivery of Artwork

The Initial Point Gallery hangs the work for us and has a very specific time to drop artwork off. Accepted artwork must be dropped off during specified time and place (see below). All artwork should be labeled on the back with the artist’s name, the title of the piece and any special hanging instructions. This is important for properly identifying each piece, as signatures are sometimes hard to decipher. Artists will also be required to fill out and sign a release waiver and drop-off sheet upon delivery of work. Please take your packing materials home with you, as there is no storage available.

Sales

Each venue has specific policies regarding artwork sales, posting of prices and artist’s contact information. Neither TVAA nor the Initial Point Gallery will handle any sales.

Artists may provide email contact information to be printed on gallery tags or a contact sheet. Artwork for sale will have the works included with the price on a separate info sheet. Any work not for sale will be labeled NFS..

Sold work must remain on exhibition for the duration of the show and can have a “red dot” on the label (placed by the artist) indicating the work has been sold. Purchases must be arranged between the individual artists and their buyers.

Artwork prices will not be displayed on the walls. Instead, the gallery will have a separate price sheet for the artworks.

City of Meridian personnel shall not facilitate in any way the sale of artwork; any transaction related to the sale of artwork shall be handled solely by the Artist. The Meridian Arts Commission requests that artists voluntarily donate to the Commission twenty percent (20%) of proceeds from any artwork sold due to its display in Initial Point Gallery. Sold artwork shall remain on display until the end of the exhibition.

Donations checks, made out to “City of Meridian, Arts Commission and saying “Initial Point Gallery Revenue” on the memo line can be hand-delivered or postal mailed to:
