Artist Statement
Lapis lazuli or blue lapis, has been a pillar in the world of art. For centuries this magnificent semiprecious stone has been mined in Afghanistan and is the source for ultramarine blue. Ranging from Egyptian artifacts, pottery of ancient China, stained glass in Europe, and modern day paint pigments, lapis is found in all aspects of art. It is the truest blue on earth and the most expensive of blue pigments. The national animal of Afghanistan in this monochromatic painting titled ‘Lapis Lazuli’ depicts a snow leopard painted in ultramarine blue made from blue lapis mined in Afghanistan.
Artist Bio
Heather Haley is an artist from Boise, Idaho and has been fortunate enough to travel throughout the world. She began drawing and painting before she could speak in full sentences, and art was her first language. A degree in Biology with an emphasis in Zoology, Heather has always had a deep appreciation for animals and nature. The inability to quench her thirst for adventure, and her insatiable passion for wildlife, Heather uses vivid color to depict scenes from her imagination and experiences. Wildlife and nature are dominant themes in her artwork, as she hopes to inspire movements of conservation globally.
