Facts, Fictions & Lies

November 18, 2018 through January 6, 2019

Your art tells the story and you tell the story again, in words. It can be fact, fiction or an outright lie. We don’t care. We want to be entertained, enlightened, or dissolved in tears. Your choice. We will select the best art with the best stories, and, if you are selected, teach you how to make your story better in workshops organized by Idaho Writer in Residence, Christian Winn. Then, your art and your story will be installed in November in the Facts, Fictions & Lies Exhibition at Boise State’s Fine Arts Gallery in the Student Union and also featured in an online exhibition on our website. At the reception in December, a dramatic actor will read stories to the attendees, as many as will fit into a two-hour event.

Application Procedure

You must be a TVAA member in good standing through the dates of this exhibition in order to participate. Click here to join now if you are not yet a member. You may submit up to three digital images of original work(s) beginning November 29, 2018 with a deadline of midnight, January 4, 2019. Please include your name, title of work, medium, dimensions for each artwork, price or value (even if not for sale), as well as your contact information. Click the Apply Now! button at the bottom of this page to begin your application.

Late entries will not be accepted, so be advised to not wait until the last minute to submit an entry, allowing time to catch any technical issues with an application.

Acceptance of Work

Current TVAA member(s) submitting images meeting the requirements of this exhibition’s theme by the deadline are encouraged to submit artwork for this show. Artwork selected for the exhibition must be available from the drop-off date through to the pick-up date. Substitutions will not be considered. If you think there will be a conflict in scheduling a particular artwork, please do not submit that piece. The Exhibition committee reserves the right to exclude any artwork for any reason, including not being appropriately prepared for installation.

Hanging Devices

Each accepted artwork should have an appropriate hanging device attached. Read this article for information on professional framing and appropriate hanging devices. If artwork is heavy, please make sure hanging device is suitable for weight and appropriate for sheetrock. Pieces without appropriate hanging devices will not be installed.

Delivery of Artwork

Accepted artwork must be dropped off at the offices of Boise State Public Radio, 220 E. Parkcenter Blvd. in Boise between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm on January 21, 2019. All artwork should be labeled on the back with the artist’s name and the title of the piece. This is important for properly identifying each piece as signatures are sometimes hard to decipher. Artists will also be required to sign a release upon delivery of work.

Sales

Artists may provide email contact information for contact by potential patrons. Artwork for sale will have the works labeled with “Value $____”. Any work not for sale will be labeled NFS. When the show comes down if the work has sold, artists are encouraged to donate 10% to TVAA and 10% to Boise State Public Radio, retaining 80% of the sale themselves. Sold work must remain on exhibition for the duration of the show and will have a “red dot” on the label indicating the work has been sold. Purchases must be arranged by the individual artists and their buyers. Neither TVAA nor BSPR will handle any sales.
