Artist Statement by Gina Brostmeyer
I’m Gina Brostmeyer and I work in watercolors and acrylics. I grew up on a dairy farm in Iowa so I’m drawn to farms, barns and outbuildings. But I will paint anything that catches my interest or that I connect with; animals, landscapes, buildings and sometimes people. My latest challenge is to express moods with my art. During the Pandemic and even this summer, art allowed me to escape into a world of my own making and for hours, forget about Covid, heat, and smoke. My husband says I like it because there’s no people and sometimes that’s true, too.
Artist Statement by Laurel MacDonald
This past year, when I couldn’t get out and actually do things, I imagined a lot of activities, like sledding and mountain biking, etc. I drew those images and then printed them, finally coloring them. I, also, created still life arrangements on my dining room table and drew those images. And printed and colored them in. Not only did I keep myself entertained, but I created images that helped me cope with a lot of anxiety that seemed to be swirling around in my head and in the world at large.
