Barb’s Barn
Oil on Canvas
Artist Statement
The color green to me is calm, Barb’s green barn houses seven calm horses, like Green in-between, Barbs barn is in between ever-developing suburbia. The barn represents a piece of nostalgia, ever resilient, ever reassuring, warm, cool, calm. Depending on the day, the growing neighborhood reflects its rooftop shadows off the side of the barn, creating jewel green tones next to warm green from the sun, the snow-kissed foothills in the background add contrast and give the barn its piece of frozen time in a new world.
Kayla Hanson is a painter born and raised in Idaho and is heavily inspired by the beauty of the natural environment. She received her bachelor’s in fine art with an emphasis on painting from Boise State University in 2021. Kayla works with oil paint and loves the action of pushing and pulling paint, and the interactions of brushwork with impasto paint. She is influenced by the interaction of light and color in the natural world, experiences, and the meaning of unraveling one’s unique interpretations of memories of “place”. Kayla has shown work in exhibitions locally and regionally since 2016.
