While I’m stuck in self-isolation life continues. The bottled bear is me isolated from everything. The green bottle has been uncorked releasing its contagious air. Fitting for this concept the antique glass is made with radium ore. The skeletons are a bride and groom representing my son’s October wedding which had to be canceled. Tucked behind everything is a photo of my dad at my wedding. I lost my dad in April. Due to restrictions, we could not have his memorial for months. The cross which represents my faith was my mom’s which I wore for my prom.
The pandemic has had a profound impact on my art. I am a landscape artist painting in my studio using photos from my travels. When Covid-19 started I desperately needed new inspiration. A planned Canada trip had to be canceled due to travel restrictions. The unmet need for new ideas combined with other factors quickly stalled my painting endeavors. Eventually I started painting from life, no longer relying on photos. My “Pandemic Life” series is based on how covid has affected me. I use personal items, glass containers and color to convey my experiences and thoughts about 2020.
