Ninety Four Point Eight
turned birchwood, maple, 23k gold leaf, steel pins, 11 x 10 x 4 1/2″, 2017
August 21st marked our first total eclipse in 38 years. We saw the one in 1979 but no way was it the media event that Monday’s umbral shadow provided. Despite dire predictions we left home at 4:30 AM in search of totality found in Baker City.
A domed birch disc with an offset recess and 23k gold leaf to provide a corona. Although black in color crossing in front of Old Sol I used artist’s license and dyes to add a chromic celestial look, finished with polished lacquer.
The name is the percentage of totality above our studio.
