And All Got Quiet
pen and ink/watercolor, 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″, 2017, prints available upon request
I viewed the eclipse from a historic cabin on the shores of Cascade Reservoir, along the path of totality. Early that morning friends busied themselves setting up chairs and camera tripods with much anticipation, but I was unsure that the eclipse would live up to the hype. As I got out my travel art kit and sketched with a fine tip permanent marker, the temperature dropped, the birds returned to their nests, and all got quiet as the sun disappeared and the light became surreal. My goal was to hold on to that moment in my plein air watercolor painting.
