Tundra Swans, Sitka AK
Watercolor, 15″ x 20″, $700
“When it’s springtime in Alaska, it’s 40 below” might be true in northern parts of the state but in the southwest coastal city of Sitka, spring arrives in temperate, maritime climate style. I based my painting “Tundra Swans, Sitka, AK” on my photos and sketches in Totem Park, where Indian River meets the Pacific. Elegant Tundra Swans overwinter there, then migrate north to breed in isolation. My painting depicts the interface of winter and summer: cool, shadowy snow patches in the foreground are shielded from the sun’s rays by Yellow Cedars. while background hills bask in spring’s emerging warmth.
