Craters Spring Study
Oil on canvas board, 9″ x 12″, $200
For much of the year Craters of the Moon appears dry and lifeless. In the springtime, for a brief few weeks, it bursts to life.
I work in series capturing transcendent natural moments. I’m always in search of the perfect moment, lighting and mood. In order to create my paintings, first I photograph the raw idea. Next, it’s fine-tuned through Photoshop using my artistic eye. Finally, it’s into the studio where my brush brings the idea to life through a marriage of classical techniques with contemporary flair. I endeavor to render my landscapes realistically while capturing the mood and essence of the scene through techniques of alla prima (wet into wet) combined with vibrant colors and high contrast.
