Artist Statement
Self-portraits are the way artists want to present themselves to the world. I have always used mirrors to take self-portraits because mirrors and photographs are both a reflection of who we are. There is an irony to using a mirror for a self-portrait in that mirrors are reality reflected back to us, while photographs can be manipulated to show what we want others to see. So what, exactly, is a self-portrait in a mirror – reality reflected or reality manipulated?
Photographs capture an instant of reality. The images are more fun if some ambiguity is added.
