Timeless Nullarbor
Watercolor
Artist Statement
Timeless Nullarbor is an abstracted expression of the Nullarbor Plain which is the world’s largest single exposure of limestone bedrock. It is flat, treeless and arid desert near a coastline, and a road and a train traverse this vast landscape. The method involved watercolor layers on stretched canvas sealed with archival matte varnish and a final thin layer of cold wax.
The paintings presented for OPUS are abstract pieces about life and the power of art to transcend daily challenges. Mary Gardiner is an abstract expressionist and plein air painter who uses imagination and her life experience to convey emotion. She works out of her studio 101 I, at the Gem Center for the Arts, and paints wherever she travels.
