Artist Statement
This piece is inspired by my childhood spent commercial fishing in Alaska, where I was mesmerized by the rare moments an octopus would make its way onto our boat. Their mysterious presence, fluid motion, and incredible texture left a lasting impression. I paint octopus not only for their beauty but for the freedom create them to be unique and one of a kind.
Born and raised in Alaska, Kristen’s work is deeply influenced by her years of commercial fishing. She paints primarily with acrylic on canvas. Drawing inspiration from the ocean, nature, and the rugged beauty of industrial metals, Kristen creates a variety of artwork involving layers and are often highly textured. This powerful intersection of nature and industry has inspired her to have an ever-evolving exploration into a variety of subjects and textures.
