Silk Collage
29 x 29
Artist Statement
This piece was created to celebrate the inherent color vitality and pliant texture of pure silk. Molding the shapes was challenging, and seeing the oh-so-gradual lightening of the fabric as glue dried was magical. (Glue, please note, sets its own schedule). So, see what you will in this piece and enjoy what your own mind creates…by design.
My art celebrates color, texture, movement, vitality, zestiness, joy, humor, independence, strength, imagination, perseverance, and a strong feeling that good stuff abounds if you know where to look for it. I volunteered at the Braille Institute in LA for years, teaching fiber arts, collage, sculpture and ceramics to blind/partially-sighted adults. Talk about a humbling experience! I’m self-taught; have pieces in private collections across the country; and love to work on commissions.
