I was entranced by the rich orange-red color of a dragonfly I found on my front porch. I wanted to set it against a complimentary green background, abstracted by foliage and pieces of sky or water shapes amongst it all.
My primary goal when beginning a painting is to capture the light of whatever subject I’ve chosen. The light quality infuses even ordinary objects with majesty and depth, providing a new perspective on what is seen in passing or in a captured, stilled moment in time.
