Woodland Pinedrops

Artist Statement
Deep in the forest, if you are very lucky, you might see woodland pinedrops. An endangered plant, they are saprophytic and draw what they require straight from the earth without the need for photosynthesizing leaves. Surrounded by a riot of late summer, multicolored plants, the pinedrop stands tall, solitary, even aloof. I can just imagine the pinedrop saying to its neighbors: No, thank you for offering, but I have everything I need right here.
I am a mixed media artist using many different materials to create elegant landscapes representative of what I’ve captured with my camera or in my mind; often a mix of the two. Materials include photography on paper or canvas, hand dyed & commercial fabric, paper, foiling, ink, and paint. My subject matter is focused on land & waterscapes in Central Idaho. My connection to nature sends me outdoors seeking new ways of expressing my vision; it could be something as small as a lichen circle, or as big as the broad expanse of sky fringed with tree branches.
