Artist Statement
I have many sisters, but when we get together, it’s typically just three of us…in one combination or another. I think of them as parts of me; we’re so alike and yet so different. Physically, we’re very similar: big feet and hands, lots of crazy hair ((although their hair is much bigger and crazier than mine), knobby knees, etc. In my Sisters series, I’m interested in portraying the physical similarities, the closeness between us, but also the separateness.
I grew up on a farm west of Boise, and I still love growing stuff! Vegetables, flowers, cacti, succulents…. It’s so satisfying. And being surrounded by greenery and beauty is kind of like living in a sanctuary. It’s very peaceful. I love bringing this imagery into my art. Along with my sister imagery. They’re both part of who I am.
