A Season of Improvisation
Oil, Acrylic and Charcoal on Canvas
Artist Statement
A Season of Improvisation is part of a series of artwork called Land Strata. It carries the idea of the sky and land in an everlasting dialogue about time and the interactions between them. This painting started with the cool white light of the hot smoky summer of this year. Each added line and color was the time that passed in a day with the river holding the composite time and last line. This painting is painted in a free and linear abstract way starting with charcoal and acrylic and finishing with the final details colors and lines in oil.
I am an artist who paints stories that speak of time, place and nature. My artwork is a contemporary fiction composed of thought, place, sight, myth, emotion, and dream. I am primarily a painter, painting large expressive, colorful, and imaginary abstract landscapes, in oil, acrylic and mixed media. Nature is my muse and inspiration. I have a BFA, MA, and MFA in Painting. My artwork has been exhibited in numerous shows and galleries in California, New York, New Jersey, and Idaho.
