Oil on board, 16″ x 14″
This piece was inspired by one of my students, who paints animals in unusual and unexpected environments. And having just completed a series on Cairns, stacked rocks, I thought I’d take it a humorous step further by stacking animals. I had fun with this.
Painting is my refuge and my passion; painting allows me to translate my inner world to others. The innumerable dialogues between dark and light, hard edges and soft, positive and negative shapes, are constantly asserting themselves as I work. The ordinary is intriguing and beautiful depending on the quality of the light illuminating it, or when seen out of context. The unobtrusive can become infused with a mysterious inner essence. I try to capture a quality of light while attending to the expressive application of paint in order to create the look and mood of a painting.
