About the artist
Marianna Jimenez Edwards’ interest in creative practices began at a young age. Frequent trips to stay with her family in Mexico exposed her to her culture. Marianna received her BFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute.
Awareness of her indigenous heritage took hold during art school. Visiting her grandmother’s village in Oaxaca, and the archaeological sites in Mexico on separate occasions grew that connection further. Marianna draws and paints in oil, acrylic, and mixed media. She incorporates cultural objects, portraits, animals, still life, collage and patterns into her work.
