Oil on canvas
This piece depicts the feeling of abandonment despite the fact that light and hope are nearby for our comfort if we but look up. It is done with a palette knife and oil paint on stretched canvas.
From pastel animal “portraits” in elementary school, to renderings of family and friends in oils today, my art journey has been a long and rewarding one. To capture not only a likeness but a sense of place or moment in time is a special feeling. I have appreciated the ability to learn from great teachers both in person and now via zoom, or YouTube webinars. Finding my own “voice” has been a challenge, but retirement and the pandemic have provided the opportunity to devote more time to developing my own style and has provided a creative outlet for maintaining sanity.
