Bicycles and mural, Spitalfields, London, Pigment inkjet print
The images are part of a project that I conducted when visiting London this summer. Years ago the Spitalfields area of London’s East End was characterized by high levels of poverty, with run-down housing and streets characterized by beggars and other people struggling to make ends meet. Since then, many people from the neighboring affluent City of London have moved in, and the area is now more characterized by business people, boutique shops and tourists. At the same, cultural and ethnic diversity that began years ago has continued apace. I wanted to record some aspects of this changing scene.
