Oil on canvas
The blue of a cold Idaho morning down along the river with snow covering the ground can lend a chilly but exhilarating list to the morning. You can feel the frost hang in the air and hear the snap of ice and crunch of ice. The frosty blue color of the water, sky and snow in a painting can make me feel that same crispness while inside by a crackling fire.
Paintings are a tunnel into the soul of the subject, capturing the personality of it. I am an expressionistic painter inspired by that essence of a person, animal or a place that is below the surface, perhaps unknown to the casual viewer, yet known and loved by those closest to it. I am inspired by landscape painters of the north, most recently those from the turn of the 19th century from Canada and the Nordic areas of the world. Born and raised in Idaho, I grew up exploring backcountry areas and lakes, and love painting the landscape. Website: www.mgarnoldart.com
