Oblivion
Vitreous enamel on copper/found necklace, 3 in. diameter approx.
Artist Statement
The pandemic puts us all on edge. But, is it on THE edge? and critically– THE EDGE of what? Some days it seems to be the edge of oblivion, that bottomless inescapable vortex. Vitreous enamel does not readily render emotion. Because the enamel is fired to a gooey, orange-hot mass in a 1500 ̊ F. kiln, the artist can’t even see the heat effects until it cools. As a result, as here, the emotion becomes part of the unexpectedness of the process.
