The Aurora Borealis — The Northern Lights — is a disturbance of the earth’s magnetosphere caused by solar winds, so it’s safe to assume that the whole process is pretty slow. And it’s been happening since who knows when. Aurora, as you may know, is the Roman Goddess of dawn, and dawn is a pretty gradual thing. Aurora’s main assignment has always been to carefully circle earth every day to announce dawn. She’s busy, but has set a pace that allows her to see a lot of really beautiful scenery. Goddesses can’t be rushed.
